ในบรรดานักร้องทั้งหลาย John Mayor ก็เป็นอีกคนหนึ่งที่มักจะเสนอมุมมองและข้อคิดดี ๆ ผ่านบทเพลงเสมอ อัลบั้ม Room For Squares (2001)อย่าง My Stupid Mouth ที่เล่าเรื่องราวของผู้ชายที่พาหญิงสาวที่ชอบออกไปเที่ยวด้วย และลงท้ายด้วยการทำให้เธอรู้สึกไม่พอใจและเหินห่างออกไป แทนที่จะได้ใจของเธอมาแทน .. เพียงเพราะไม่ระวังคำพูด

ใน Heavier Things (2003) ก็เช่นกัน John Mayor กลับมาด้วยเพลงที่ให้คิดตามอีกเช่นเคย และก็ดูเหมือนว่า Daughters จะบอกให้เราคิดจริงจังมากกว่าที่ผ่านมาเสียอีก .... ฟังดูเผิน ๆ Daughters อาจจะเป็นแค่เพลงรักธรรมดาสักเพลง แต่เมื่อจับใจความให้ลึกลงไปกลับลึกซึ้งออกไป

หากเรารักใครสักคน และความรักนั้นไม่ได้รับการตอบสนองล่ะ
เราคิดว่าเป็นเพราะตัวของเราทำให้เธอเกิดกำแพงกั้นตัวเธอไว้
แต่แล้ว เราก็พบว่าเราทำอะไรไม่ได้เลย
พ่อของเธอ ครอบครัวของเธอต่างหากที่มีผลกับเธอมาตลอด …

นั่นแหละ John Mayor ก็เลยขอร้องให้เราได้หยุดคิดว่า ลูกสาวเหล่านี้วันหนึ่งจะต้องเติบโต มีครอบครัว แต่งงาน และกลายมาเป็นแม่ของเด็กอีกคนเหมือนกัน แต่ถ้าเธอไม่เคยถูกรัก ไม่เคยเรียนรู้ที่จะรัก พวกเธอก็จะรักใครไม่เป็น และกลายมาเป็นวัฎจักรปัญหาอยู่เช่นนี้เรื่อยไป
